Street luge is a form of downhill skateboarding taken to the extreme and is very popular in the USA.
Very high speed!
The riders wear helmets and leathers, like you would if you were racing super bikes, and they lay down on the board feet first. Many crashes, many broken bones, many crazy people.
If you're thinking of taking up street luge, be prepared for a struggle. It isn't as popular in the UK as the USA.
It began in California in the 70s by skateboarders who discovered that they could reach faster speeds by laying down on the board. As the years passed, the boards evolved. Now they consist of 7ft long boards with cupped sides and feet rests. Oh yeah, and no brakes! Sound fun? |
