Skimboarding

Skimboarding is a form of surfing. This sport can only be done properly on surf that is breaking very close to the shoreline.

It involves throwing/skimming your short skimboard onto the shallow water, then running and jumping on the board to ride the surf back in to the shoreline.

Skimboarding is basically hydroplaning. There are two different way that you can use a skimboard:-

1. You skim the board out from the beach into oncoming breaking waves and ride them back in.

2. You use the board on shallow water when there are no waves. With this method you can set up small jumps and grinds in the shallow water to make it more interesting.

This is a very easy and inexpensive sport to take up which you can do whether there is surf or not. But beware! Just because you are skimming on shallow water doesn't mean that when you fall off you will land onto a bed of soft feathers.

A lot of injuries can occur with this sport just because people think that they won't get hurt fall onto shallow water. They are wrong! Pain is just a inch of water away so just think of it as if you were skateboarding.
