The Review:
These are a great new addition to the range of extreme sports cameras on the market at the moment. The SunnyCam sunglasses look just like a normal pair of sunglasses, but looks can be deceiving; a pinhead size hole in the front centre of the glasses is the camera so where you look and turn your head, the camera records.
On the left arm of the glasses sits a slightly bigger part of the frame with a power button, a record button and place for a micro SD card and charge cable to fit and on the right the battery. These two things make the arms of the frame slightly bulkier than regular sunglasses which, in fact, may be the only give away.
That said, they fit nice and tight to your head and feel safe and secure so they don’t fall off. Many of the people we have spoken to whilst filming with these glasses could not believe that they were actually a camera - a lot of great responses and a lot of people wanting to try them out.
Another BIG plus is the quality of the footage. Unlike other head cameras we have used in the past about 90% of the SunnyCam glasses footage is clear and useable
We have used them rap jumping, abseiling, climbing slacklining, kite bugging, kite boarding, skateboarding, bmxing and even took the lenses out and used them caving.
The glasses have performed well on all of these Another cool feature on the SunnyCam sunglasses is the record light. By looking your eyes to the left you can see a small blue light flashing to let you know the camera is recording. We particularly like this feature as we have used extreme sports cameras in the past that have stopped recording half way through filming something and not realised until we have later checked the footage and have had to do it again. With the flashing blue light you know at a glance you are still recording.
The only thing that took a little getting used to was the fact you have turn your head a little more than usual to get the best shots as you don’t realise how much you look around with your eyes without turning your head but after a few outings with the glasses we soon had it down to a T.
They come nicely packaged with a carry case, changeable lenses for different conditions, a lens cloth and a usb charger with changeable ends so you can charge them by plug, computer or, our favourite, in car charger!
With a 3hour battery life and a 4 GB internal memory and space for up to an 8GB micro SD card (2GB micro SD card included) the SunnyCam glasses come out with top marks.
We have had great fun testing the SunnyCam glasses out and look forward to seeing what the SunnyCam Guys come up with next as they look set to revolutionise the way extreme sports are filmed.
