How to Walk a Slackline

Slackline is a new extreme sport. It's the cooler, younger brother to tight rope walking. Slackline does exactly what it says on the tin - a slack line to walk and perform tricks on.

Normally, slacklines are close to the ground (lowlining), about 2 or 3 ft high to practice and perform tricks. The nylon webbing is flat and about two inches wide which is anchored between two points.

Unlike tight rope walking, the line isn't tight and the tension can be adjusted to suit the user. The webbing stretches allowing the user to bounce and perform many different and impressive tricks.

Slacklining is a querky and cool extreme sport to get into. Do it anywhere, alone or with friends and, when you start to get good, blow your mates away with some impressive tricks!

Where

Anywhere you can find two anchor points. Not too HIGH though, eager beavers! Wait 'til you get good and learn all you need to know about the safety equipment.

Cost and Equipment

Slackline - Around the £40 area for 15 meters of the webbing. This will also include two heavy duty ratchets for anchoring, training book and carry bag.

Shoes - Not really needed. You can slackline barefoot but if you find that it hurts when falling off the line with no shoes then try something like skateboarding shoes. They have a wide flat sole that helps you to balance.
