MY FIRST JUMP
I got the chance to do my first bungee jump totally by accident.
It was about June/July 2004 and a friend of mine had asked me to give him a hand on a stall for the weekend at NASS .
Anyway, I bumped in to a mate of mine who said he had a spare ticket for a bungee jump if I wanted it.
So I got there, had the safety talk, signed the disclaimer and then got weighed (yes girls, you have to get weighed).
I was then put into a harness and leg straps and sat and waited for the people in front of me to jump. There were two people in front of me but by this time I was bricking it so time had no meaning! The next two people jumped and then it was my turn so I hopped across to the cage (yes, I said hopped - you try walking in ankle straps) got in and sat down.
I then had a bit more safety talk from one of the guys and he explained how to jump.
Going up in that cage must have taken about a minute or two but, God, it felt like forever! Once up at the top I could see all around me and things down below looked really, really small. By now I was just thinking "sh*t!!!”
I had more instructions from the guy and then he said "3 2 1 - jump!" and I remember thinking “3 - I don’t wanna do it! 2 - I don’t wanna do it! 1- I don’t wanna do it!" and then " Jump - I don’t wanna do it!!!". For some unknown reason I still jumped and was now falling through the air thinking "I don’t wanna do it, I don’t wanna do it!"
My only thought by this point was "Shhh****tttt!" and then I felt the bungee pull tight and WOW what a feeling!
The only scary part now was that I could feel cord hitting the bottom of my feet on the way back up. A bit dicey but I was there now so what could I do?!
I remember feeling as though I was just hanging there for ages whilst I was lowered down.
Once back down to Earth, I took off the harness and leg straps and went back over to my friends who asked “What was it like?”. My reply was simply “Amazing! I want to do it again!” . I didn't mention that just five minutes ago I really thought I was going to die!
But I tell you, the buzz I got from that bungee jump was phenomenal. I was bouncing off the walls for days and even now I still get a bit of a tingle just thinking about.
So there you have it. Now go do it.
